Abstract
- The article profiles some outstanding New Yorkers. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, originally named Lewis Alcindor, is recognized as one of the best basketball players ever. Susan B. Anthony was a pioneer crusader for women's rights in the United States. Lucille Ball was a famous comedienne and entertainer. She played the funny homemaker Lucy Ricardo in the popular 1950's television show "I Love Lucy." Roger Straus Jr. founded the highly successful publishing company Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 1946, after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
