Abstract

The article discusses laws on personal property in Canada as they relate to a separated couple's pet management. Topics include the categorization of pets as property, the general rules that the person who bought the pet owns it, and the person who receives the pet as a gift owns it, and the possible ownership claim on animals that are stray or abandoned. Also noted is the possible ownership of an animal by more than one person.
