Abstract

In spite of the economic downturn in Hungary the development of infrastructure has continued. Thanks to the support of the European Union and the scheduled investments several roads and bridges have been designed in Hungary. The paper discusses four bridge designs. Some of these bridges are in the planning phase and some of them are in the realization phase. However it is important to point out that all of these bridges create connections, they ensure relationships between regions and countries. Basically all discussed bridges are composite structures with steel girders and concrete deck, however in the case of two bridges they have an arch superstructure as well. The arch and the main girders are connected by cables for one of the bridges and rods for another bridge. As the bridges cross rivers floodplain bridges are also designed with them and they are discussed in this paper. The paper presents the beam bridge at Magyarcsanád over the river Maros, the arch bridge at Helemba over the river of Ipoly. Two other bridges are also introduced in the paper: the composite bridge on highway M43 over the floodplain of Tisza, the arch bridge on highway M44 at Hármas-Körös. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
