Abstract

The section presents a foreword to the journal Information and Behavior, volume 1. The profusion of publications comes largely from the redundancy of scholarly ritual. More than ritual is needed if Information and Behavior is to be more than just another pretty journal. Information and Behavior's distinguishing marks could be to follow the irregularity of innovations in scholarship. On the same order, the series could spend most of its budget on a worldwide advertising campaign soliciting nonceremonial contributions to its treasury of knowledge. Information and Behavior needs something more than refined hypotheses and more than refined means of research.
