Abstract

The use of web-scale discovery services (Discovery services) has been expanding since 2009. Recently, a lot of Japanese universities have begun to use Discovery services. Users can search scholarly databases using Discovery services in a manner s imila r to a Google search, assisting them in the discovery o f new academic data. In addition, Discovery services are completely different from the search strategies for existing scholarly databases. Some users find the use of a Discovery service to require a different transition from the use of existing scholarly databases. The present study examined the d ifferen ces between existing scholarly databases and Discovery service usage, analyzing the usage statistics and the choice of search key words, with the goal of assisting users to better understand the new services.
