OTHER VOICES: BID proposal had fundamental flaws.

Detroit Downtown Inc., the promoter of the BID, should be commended for having spent thousands of hours attempting to establish and promote it. They had the best interests of downtown Detroit in mind. Nevertheless, the BID plan was fatally flawed, and the seven Detroit council members who opposed it clearly saw that. It is not as if Detroit Downtown with its legions of high-profile political supporters didn't lobby very hard to get this thing passed; they did. However, the council understood problems the BID would have created if adopted and did the right thing by voting against it.
