Abstract
- The article discusses the Indian-white conflict in the Humboldt County, California during the 1850s and 1860s, focusing on the effects of the American Civil War on American Indians. It states that the term Manifest Destiny was used to justify genocide against American Indians throughout the U.S. The abuses faced by the natives were beyond racial intolerance. It discusses the Hoopa reservation and the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the Hupa tribe and U.S. government.
