Abstract

The article discusses the study on the old-growth structure of the forest dynamics on Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts. It states that the forest were composed of mixture of Quercus rubra and northern hardwood species. It notes that the species abundances and recruitment dynamics exhibit variable spatial and temporal patterns across sites that differs in part and exposure. It mentions that the gnarled trees gave the forest resistance against severe winds from hurricanes.
