Abstract

In this paper an attempt has been made to find the enhancement of heat transfer with different types of twisted tape inserts (TTWTT), that is inserts of twisted tape over the twisted tape at an angles of 90 and 180 degrees twist. In plain twisted tape at the location of swirl flow the mixing of fluid particle are not satisfactory so that the heat transfer is somewhat less than the turbulent regime so in this paper numerical analysis of thermal and hydraulic characteristics of water flow has been studied by inserting twisted tapes over the main twisted tape at the location of uniform stream lines forming zone. The numerical simulation was performed in order to gain an understanding of physical behaviour of the fluid flow (decaying swirling flow field), fluid temperature and local Nusselt number characteristics of a tube fitted with TTWTT.
