Abstract

As conservation sites, Protected Natural Areas (PAs) arguably have a greater need for the estimation of their carrying capacity than other destinations. The Iztaccihualtl-Popocatepetl National Park in Mexico has eight trails, which are offered as attractions. These paths have different purposes, emphasizing different aspects within the Park. Some of the paths are also used as educational tools within the subject of conservation. This research paper focuses on two of such trails and uses the methodology of carrying capacity to estimate the ideal number of visitors to each trail. The document concludes arguing the advantages and disadvantages of trails in National Parks. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the methodology of carrying capacity as a tool for the management of visit or flow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
