Abstract: The article discusses research which examined the role of spray in adding resistance when the crest of the incident waves hits a blunt-bow ship. Topics discussed include the ship motion characteristics in waves, added resistances acting on the model in waves, observation of spray at bow and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations.
