Focused assessment of the patient with eye trauma: the essentials.

Few clinical entities cause more apprehension for emergency department (ED) personnel than ocular trauma. However, a systematic approach to the ocular trauma patient and knowledge of a few common clinical situations can ease this feeling of inadequacy and improve patient care. This article will outline a basic approach to the ocular trauma patient and describe a variety of traumatic ocular conditions as well as their initial management and potential pitfalls.
