Abstract

The article discusses the spread of Afro-Cuban religion Santería to the U.S., with a focus on the role of the visa for religious workers or religious visa on this expansion. Topics addressed include an overview of the emigration from Cuba to the U.S. after the Cuba Revolution of 1959, the U.S. immigration policy toward Cuba from 2004 to 2009, and the relationship between religious organizations and politics in Cuba. A brief historical overview of the origins and practice of Santería in Cuba, as well as its internationalization is also included.
