The article presents a study comparing the cardiorespiratory variables in dorsally recumbent horses anesthetized with guaifenesin-ketamine-xylazine and spontaneously breathing 50 percent or maximal oxygen concentrations. Topics also discussed include the ventilation-perfusion ratio, the effect of absorption atelectasis due to absorption of alveolar gas, and the observbation of lithium dilution cardiac output.
