Abstract

Industry and union supporters of the United States House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Bill Young's $375 billion transportation reauthorization plan are making a renewed push to win support for the proposal to pay for the package through an increase in the gas tax. The Transportation Coalition comprises trade unions, road builders and other transportation interests. The coalition is also running daily advertisements in area publications. While all sides of the debate favor an increase in federal spending, the continuing gridlock on how to fund such a boost has significantly slowed progress in the House and Senate.
