Abstract
- A biography of British Columbia political cartoonist James Brian Fitzmaurice is presented. He was born in England in 1875 and emigrated to Canada in the early 1890s. He worked as a chalkboard artist in Vancouver, British Columbia, vaudeville establishments and was hired by the newspaper the Vancouver "Province" in 1907. He worked in eastern Canada and the U.S. before returning to the "Province" in 1916. He was responsible for several propaganda and political cartoons during World War I. Following the war he continued his cartoon work for the "Province." He died in January 1926.
