Abstract: The article discusses the book "Der Zusammenbruch des Ottomanischen Reiches" written by Austrian historian and military officer Josef Pomiankowski on the history of the Ottoman Empire. The impact of World War I on the development of the nation of Poland as well as its national identity, Pomiankowski's role in the military history of the Ottoman Empire, and tension between Pomiankowski's identity as an Austro-Hungarian and a Pole are analyzed. The politics of the final day of the Ottoman Empire are described.
