Abstract
- The electronic structures of SrMn<subscript>1-x</subscript>Ru<subscript>x</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> (0⩽x⩽1) have been investigated by employing soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The measured Mn 2p XAS spectra for SrMn<subscript>1-x</subscript>Ru<subscript>x</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> show that the valence states of Mn ions change monotonically from Mn<superscript>4+</superscript> for x=0 to ∼Mn<superscript>3+</superscript> for x=0.8, suggesting that the valence states of the substituted Ru ions are higher than 4+. The Ru 3p XAS spectra of SrMn<subscript>1-x</subscript>Ru<subscript>x</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> show the existence of pentavalent Ru<superscript>5+</superscript> ions for the low x value. The measured O 1s XAS spectra also support these findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
