Abstract

A ferromagnetic shape memory alloy was utilized to construct a Ni<subscript>43</subscript>Mn<subscript>41</subscript>Co<subscript>5</subscript>Sn<subscript>11</subscript>/Pb(Zr,Ti)O<subscript>3</subscript> laminate. Large direct and converse magnetoelectric (ME) effects were observed at resonance frequencies around the martensitic transition temperature of Ni<subscript>43</subscript>Mn<subscript>41</subscript>Co<subscript>5</subscript>Sn<subscript>11</subscript> alloy, and the temperature affects the ME properties remarkably. The ME coefficients respond almost linearly to the applied ac electric or magnetic field. The mechanism of both direct and converse ME effects in the laminate is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
