Abstract

A new silk material with three-dimensional coil structure was obtained by physical twisting and chemical treatment of calcium. The elastic elongation rate of this new silk fiber reached 69.5%, which is much higher than that of common silk (~1.3%). Meanwhile, it is soft with initial modulus of 9.8cN/dtex, while that of ordinary one is 72.4cN/dtex. In this paper, a four-parameter nonlinear visco-elastic model, was used to analyze the tensile properties of three-dimensional coil silk fibers. The theoretical prediction agrees well with experimental results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
