Abstract

The article discusses the origin of book collecting which has been defined by English bibliographer A. W. Pollard as the bringing together of books which in their contents, form or the history depict permanent interest. It mentions that book collectors in Australia and New Zealand are called patriots since the countries are famous for their diverse range of collections that add to their literary and cultural heritage. The zoological collections in the late-nineteenth-century are also outlined.
