- Evaluates empirically the impact of various regulations on bank profitability, on Canadian and United States' banks from 1929-1989. Use of annual data on nationally chartered banks in these two countries; What an intercountry comparison reveals; Perception that American banks would have been more profitable over the sample period in a regulatory environment similar to Canada.
