Abstract
- The article looks at the history of police-community relations in Great Britain, focusing on Leeds, England, in the late 19th century. It presents information from police occurrence books, or log books, to trace trends in public opinions and behaviors toward the police. Topics include popular culture and social conditions in 19th-century England, popular hostility toward certain forms of policing, and violence against policemen.
