Abstract

The authors discuss the adoption of affirmative action programs on the court case Fisher v. University of Texas wherein Abigail Fisher sued the university for denying her admission due to race. Topics discussed by the author include the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, meritocracy in U.S. culture, and the increase of geographic and socioeconomic diversity in elite universities when class-based affirmative action programs were implemented.
