The current status of nature, and ecological problems of the Middle Onon region.

We provide a brief outline of the Middle Onon region and characterize the current status of the soils, vegetation and surface waters. We examine the environmental consequences of development of tin and gold deposits in the region, and suggest some avenues for recultivation of technogenically disturbed landscapes.
