Community Banking in the 21st Century.

The article examines the structural changes of community banking in the U.S. in the 21st century. It notes the decline of the percentage of banking assets held by community banks by 17% in 2012 from 50% in the past 20 years. It highlights the conference of the Federal Reserve System and the Conference of State Bank Supervisors on October 2-3, 2013 addressing three main issues of community bank roles, its performance and supervision and regulation. Summaries of the papers are also presented.
