Abstract
- The article focuses on the economic slowdown and corresponding turnaround plan in Japan. It explores the role of capital, labor and total factor productivity (TFP) in the economic growth of the country before 1990 and economic slowdown after 1990 and offers a comparison against the U.S. and South Korea. Initiatives launched by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to address the aging population, low inflation and growing public debt include monetary base increases, fiscal stimulus and structural reforms.
