Abstract

The article offers the perspective that a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) postal savings bank operated successfully from 1911 to 1967 and discusses whether or not postal banking services operated by the USPS as of 2014 would be successful and generate revenue. The discussion topics include competition in the financial services market, the banking industry's opposition to USPS postal banking services, and the issue of postal banks offering consumer credit and government-backed small loans.
