Abstract
- This article focuses on Chrysler Co.'s expansion abroad in competition with other automobile makers. Chrysler has some vehicles that are in big demand abroad, especially its Jeeps and minivans. It will supply the demand from home plants or will assemble cars from mostly made-in-America parts in small plants in places like Malaysia, Venezuela, Thailand and maybe, later, India. In a big way Chrysler is betting on the productivity of the American worker-and betting against a strong dollar. So rather than drawing down its cash to expand abroad, Chrysler will for now probably hoard it against the inevitable rainy day.
