Abstract

The article addresses the pressures that privatization of some public sector organizations has brought to bear on those remaining public enterprises, such as British Rail. The article follows the organizational changes at British Rail that have a direct impact on industrial relations and labor management, specifically surrounding diversity, deviation, and oscillation in management activity and the participation of trade union representatives in management decision making. A literature review of management structure and industrial relations begins the discussion, and an examination of British Rail former and current management structure is also presented.
