Abstract

The article reflects on a medical condition wherein a 26-yr-old boom operator has been presented with a scaly, pruritic, erythematous plaque on her left posterior hand, which is taken as an example for a hypothetical surgeon in a deployed airlift squadron in Afghanistan. It mentions discussions on three conditions on which the patient can be treated including a course of oral antibiotics and duties not to include flying (DNIF) for ground trial, oral steroids and a potassium hydroxide test.
