Abstract
- The article looks at the development of unmanned sailboats, as of 2013. It reports on a successful trip from California to Hawaii by the SD1, manufactured by autonomous boat company Saildrone. It discusses the potential use of such boats in oceanographic research, defense functions, and cargo shipping. Another firm in the industry, Harbor Wing Technologies, is also discussed.
