Abstract

The article focuses on the 2013 annual report on schools and colleges by the British Office for Standards in Education. It comments on factors impeding educational progress including weak leadership and mediocre teaching, underachievement of poor children, and inattention and disruptions in the classroom. It mentions that standards in many of England's weakest schools have been raised by the growth in the number of academies over the last few years.
