Abstract
- Botswana is a Texas-sized country of scarcely 1.3 million people whose broiling Kalahari Desert, vast game reserves and breathtaking Okavango Delta have made it one of Africa's most popular safari spots. At the same time, the country's relative political and economic stability have kept it virtually unknown to most Americans: Africa's oldest and neatest-functioning democracy could hardly be expected to steal international headlines from the violence and starvation nearby. Botswana, however, has heard of the U.S.
