Abstract
- The article explores the status of regional banking in Texas as of July 1977. Amendments made to the Bank Holding Company Act have allowed major banks in Texas to grow by acquiring other banks, while complying with the state's unit-banking law that prohibits branching. According to a study conducted by the Dallas Federal Reserve in 1973, the 40 largest corporations in Texas maintained 80% of their principal credit lines with banks outside the state.
