Abstract

The article discusses the impact of government-mandated family planning on China's population as of December 2013, focusing on the Chinese government's one-child policy which was unveiled in 1979, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping's decision to sign into law a "fine-tuning" of the nation's family-planing policy which allows some couples to have two offspring. China's economic success is mentioned, along with social instability and gender disparity in the country.
