Abstract

A ROAD system that allows anyone to travel around the city safely, no matter what method they choose, should be something London can take for granted. Three cyclist deaths at the same location is unacceptable. The shortcomings of the Bow roundabout need to be addressed urgently and in consultation with those with experience of using it. Baroness Jo Valentine, London First KEN Livingstone promised segregated cycle lanes; this clearly didn't happen. We are told road infrastructure change takes time — but the number of recent deaths show we don't have this luxury. Should we put bollards along cycle lanes and ban other traffic until segregation can be achieved? Thomas König, trauma surgeon MY daughter commutes daily by bike from Camberwell to Clerkenwell, my brother from Highgate to Notting Hill; my son cycles across town every day, as does his mother, as well as a dozen friends and colleagues. All have serious incidents to relate. How can the carnage be allowed to continue? Does no one run this town? Maurice Geller, SW18 [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
