Abstract

The article discusses the development of paper production as a business barometer for the development of all other branches of industry. Attention is paid to an economic forecast made by economist Henry B. Arthur for the U.S. Association of National Advertisers. The author focuses on two charts with data on gross national product (GNP), rail carloadings, and paper production, as well as on the U.S. per capita paper consumption and income between 1937 and 1953 in the U.S.
