Abstract
- The article discusses the deportation of the Crimean Tatars to Central Asia by the Soviet government during the final phase of the Second World War. The author provides both statistics and personal narratives concerning the experiences of the deportees. Issues raised include the Soviet government's consideration regarding minorities, military policy, and geopolitics which, according to the author, were the backdrop against which the deportations occurred, the settlements and labor camps into which the Tatars were forced in Central Asia, and the continued discrimination against this ethnic group in the postwar period.
