Abstract

The article discusses the sex trade and tradition in the lower caste community of Bedia in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, India. The community allows young girls to engage in prostitution. Bedia sex workers earn 10 to 20 times higher than the wage approved by the government. These sex workers often support their families, which include unemployed brothers and their wives and children. Young girls in the community are given the option to either marry or become a sex worker.
