Abstract

The article presents information on coal producing counties of West Virginia. Some of them include Barbour, Boone, and Braxton. Barbour was founded in 1843 and named after Virginia Judge Philip Pendleton Barbour. Boone was founded in 1847 and named after frontiersman Daniel Boone. Information is offered on the number of mines, employees, and wages. Coal mining companies mentioned include the Wolf Run Mining Co. Inc., the Elk Run Coal Co. and Brooks Run Mining Co. LLC.
