Abstract

The taxonomic status of the Atlantic and Mediterranean poor cod is a controversial issue. Here we present 10 microsatellite loci from poor cod Trisopterus minutus (L), which have been tested across 10 populations of poor cod. Most loci are highly polymorphic with 7-65 alleles, with one exception, the Tmssr two loci. In poor cod it is a compound microsatellite exhibiting extensive allelic variation. These markers have utility for the two subspecies of poor cod and possible utility for the Trisopterus genus. They may also provide a strong tool for detailed population studies in all gadoids.
