Abstract

The article looks at the growth of Japanese manufacturing investments in the U.S. As of 1979, about 300 Japanese firms made direct investments into 532 U.S. manufacturing projects, with the U.S. expected to rival Southeast Asia as an outlet for Japanese manufacturing investment. It is also predicted that Japan will surpass West Germany and Great Britain to become the world's second largest overseas direct investor.
