Abstract

The article offers information on the lawsuits related to genetic patents. It states that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) has granted patents on human genes since 1982. It mentions that the PTO made clear its policy in 2001, stating that an 'isolated and purified DNA molecule that has the same sequence as a naturally occurring gene' is patentable subject matter.
