Abstract

The article looks at the Chinese economy as of 2013, focusing on the impact of the 2008 global financial crisis. It says that the crisis resulted in a drop in foreign demand for Chinese goods, in turn leading to an increase in domestic investment in order to maintain the country's high economic growth rates. It describes the huge New Century Global Center multi-use development in Chengdu, China, citing it as an example of boondoggle developments that resulted.
