Innovative SiC/SiC Composite for Nuclear Applications.

A conference paper about the use of silicon carbide (SiC)/SiC ceramic matrix composites (CMC) as fuel cladding materials for fusion and advanced fission energy is presented. It discusses the use of composites in gas-cooled fast reactor (GFR) and sodium fast reactor (SFR), the challenges faced by scientists in using these materials, and relative elongation of a CMC. The Commisariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) manufactures CMC.
