Abstract
- The article explores the insight gained by Robert E. Woodruff before he became Erie Railroad head in 1941. It recalls his driving of a road gang on their job based on his plan on paper, which led to a work stoppage, and his later adjustments by approaching and interacting with them in a gentle manner, which led to the job's completion. The article states that the human element cannot be overlooked in any transaction, and that if people are informed, their productivity increases.
