Abstract

The article discusses how the packaging industry was able to meet its wartime obligations despite restrictions and shortages in materials and manpower in the U.S. as of 1943. Impregnated fiber containers for products such as thermos bottles are being produced by Cambridge Paper Box Co. while Sutherland Paper Co. developed a moisture-proof and grease-proof paperboard coffee carton. Chemists have also developed a type of thermoplastic coating used for fiber containers of foodstuffs.
