Abstract

The article focuses on the statistical report released by the U.S. Department of Education regarding the number of African Americans who earned a bachelor's degree in the 2007-2008 academic year. It states that 64 percent of Black graduates had received a Pell Grant from the federal government during their college careers. It mentions that 15 percent of all African Americans earned their bachelor's degree in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
