Abstract

Presents a study that assessed the measurement and description of widespread and relatively stable bilingualism in a Puerto Rican neighborhood in Jersey City, New Jersey. Investigation of the existence of bilingualism in a speech community in terms of sociolinguistics norms; Examination of methodologies in the study of stable bilingualism in a contextualized manner; Discussion on the results of a field study in Jersey City.
